Green Procurement
C2P2 assisted Toronto Transit Commission in the development of their Green Procurement Policy in 2007-08. The Policy was adopted in July 2008 by the Commission and is available on their website at TTC
Ontario Hospital Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and Air Emission Project
From 2006 to 2008 in partnership with the Ontario Hospital Association, C2P2 is working with healthcare facilities to voluntarily address GHG emissions. The project involves providing educational support, tools and a strong social marketing campaign to reduce GHG emissions.
P2 Assessments of SMEs in Source Protection Zones
From 2007 to 2008, C2P2 worked with the Ontario Ministry of Environment to design a voluntary program for P2 assessments of SMEs located near wells or surface drinking water sources. The program was implemented with the assistance of Conservation Authorities who solicited eligible SMEs to volunteer for P2 assessments and referred such facilities to C2P2. C2P2 assigned P2 experts to carry out assessment of the facilities and inform the facilities of their strengths and weaknesses of their P2 measures.
Energy Star Purchasing Guide Update
In 2008, C2P2 worked with the Office of Energy Efficiency of Natural Resources Canada to update its Energy Star Purchasing Guide. The guide was updated to assist procurement operations of government agencies and other organizations in purchasing energy efficient equipment.
Past Projects
Greening Manitoba Suppliers - A Peer Assistance Approach
In partnership with the Manitoba Environmental Industries Association (MEIA), C2P2 is inviting the SMEs that supply larger organizations to address their environmental impact. This greening the supply chain project will enable SMEs to work together and with environmental experts during a series of four, one day interactive training sessions on various topical environmental issues.
Weather Flow Improvement Opportunities for the Small Business Sector
C2P2 is initiating an educational outreach program that will provide Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) in Toronto options for reducing wet weather flow as part of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority's Community Program for Stormwater Management. The project is expected to make use of volunteers to promote the project and distribute education and awareness materials to business owners, business managers and property owners in the Leaside area in Toronto.
CEPA Support Tools
The C2P2 played a key role in the development of a guidance manual, model plan and fact sheets in support of CEPA P2 Planning requirements.
Group EMS Peer Assistance Project
The C2P2 led and coordinated a group of six healthcare facilities in the simultaneous development of an environmental management system (EMS) in order to improve the implementation of prevention based environmental initiatives. The project was supported by the internet based Oxegen EMS software system. The project involved a series of 4 workshops hosted by the various participating health care facilities.
P2 and Skis
Working in collaboration with Environment Canada-Ontario region and the Ontario Snow Resorts Association, C2P2 will continue to develop a P2 based environmental management strategy that focuses on water, air, energy, waste and land at Ontario ski areas.
Practical Guide to Pollution Prevention
The C2P2 produced a guide of problem-solving and decision-making tools to help organizations include pollution prevention in everyday business. The guide was prepared by practitioners (Pollution Prevention Planning (P3) WorkGroup) for practitioners - those who design, implement and maintain pollution prevention programs.
P2 Practitioners Course and Certificate
The C2P2 offers a course for pollution prevention practitioners - professionals responsible for implementing and maintaining P2 programs. Participants will receive a pollution prevention planner' certificate, upon successful completion of the course. The course was delivered by leading pollution prevention experts through the University of Toronto's Professional Development Centre, Faculty of Engineering and Royal Roads University, Victoria, and the University of Waterloo, Waterloo in 2001.
Productivity through Eco-efficiency
Promoting productivity through eco-efficiency is one of the main themes of Industry Canada's new Sustainable Development Strategy. The C2P2 played an advisory role in the development of Industry's Canada's eco-efficiency self-assessment tool. This tool was developed to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in understanding and taking advantage of the opportunities offered by eco-efficiency.
SME Partnership for a Sustainable Guelph
C2P2 is assisting the University of Guelph, School of Environmental Design and Rural Development in the development of a program to use student interns to support environmental improvement initiatives in Guelph area small and medium sized businesses.
Southwestern Ontario Air Quality Initiative-Business Air Quality Program Pilot
C2P2 is supporting the Ontario Centre for Environmental Technology Advancement's delivery of the Environment Canada-Business Air Quality Program Pilot by providing support for the Business Air Quality Program Pilot to reduce criteria air pollutants generated by small-to-medium sized (SME) industrial manufacturing operations in Southwest Ontario. The program provides companies with technical support to identify opportunities for improvements through energy efficiency and pollution prevention. C2P2 is assisting in the promotion, marketing and engagement of prospective clients for the initiative.
Southwestern Ontario Air Quality Initiative-Intelligent Vehicle Tracking/Monitoring System (IVTMS)
C2P2 is providing project management support on a fleet demo pilot project which will conduct a field trial of IVTMS on a 30-50 vehicle municipal fleet in the City of London with specific focus on environmental quality parameters and potential reduction in NOx and CO2 emissions. Praetorian Aerospace and Defence Group is providing the technical support for the project.
Working with Smaller Businesses
With guidance from the businesses of the Emery Creek Environmental Association in Toronto, the C2P2 produced an ISO 14000 Guidance Document for Smaller Businesses. Focus group sessions and workshops with the businesses resulted in a valuable document designed to ensure environmental compliance, stimulate a move to prevention and align business efforts with ISO 14000.
