P2 Planning Training with Base Metal Smelters
Provided pollution prevention planning support for the smelters affected by the P2 planning notice released by Environment Canada - National Office of Pollution Prevention.
Model Pollution Prevention Plans for Wastewater Systems for the Reduction of Inorganic Chloramines and Chlorinated Wastewater Effluents in Wastewater Effluents
In collaboration with Marbek, C2P2 developed four sample P2 plans that will provide guidance to persons subject to the December 4, 2004 Gazette Notice requiring the development of such plans. EC has proposed pollution prevention (P2) planning requirements for: those persons who own a wastewater system at the time of publication of the P2 Planning Notice where the effluent released during either 2004 or 2005 from that system to surface waster is greater than or equal to 5,000 m3 per day, based on an annual average, and where the concentration of total residual chlorine in the effluent released to surface water exceeds 0.02 mg/L in any sample during either 2004 or 2005, based on representative sampling.
North York General Hospital, OCETA Toronto Sustainability Program
In an advisory capacity, the C2P2 assisted one of it's member consultants in preparing a pollution prevention plan for a Toronto area hospital to address the City of Toronto's P2 Planning requirement. C2P2 continues to share it's knowledge and lessons learned from it's previous hospital P2 Planning experience. In addition, the C2P2 staff participated in the delivery of staff training.
P2 for Enforcement Staff
Working with the City of Toronto, the C2P2 drafted the pollution prevention planning requirements for the Sewer Use Bylaw which was passed by City Council in July 2000.
In support of the pollution prevention planning provisions of the new By-law, the C2P2 designed and delivered a 2-day training session for City of Toronto staff and inspectors.
Future plans include ongoing work with the City of Toronto and key partners to ensure industries not only prepare pollution prevention plans but benefit from taking preventive action.
P2 Planning Outreach - City of Toronto - Health care sector
Assistance is being provided to the City of Toronto through Environment Canada - Ontario Region enabling C2P2 to organize two, half-day workshops for the health care sector. These workshops will assist hospitals, medical laboratories, & other health care organizations in this sector in preparing their Pollution Prevention (P2) Plans. C2P2 will assist in the design and delivery of the workshops.
P3 Workgroup
The P3 Workgroup is a forum for C2P2 members to address issues encountered as they relate to pollution prevention planning. In addition to electronic discussions, the P2 Workgroup will meets annually, in person, at the Canadian Pollution Prevention Roundtable. The Workgroup was instrumental in advising and participating in the formation of the P2 Planning Certificate Guideline.
Sample P2 Plans - Nonylphenol (NP) and its Ethoxylates (NPEs)
Environment Canada issued a Proposed Notice Requiring the Preparation and Implementation of Pollution Prevention Plans in Respect of Nonylphenol (NP) and its Ethoxylates (NPEs) Contained in Products. Pollution prevention planning has been identified as the instrument to reduce the quantity and toxicity of these effluents. C2P2 worked with two companies affected by the notice to develop Sample P2 Plans to address the notice. The objectives of this project were to provide industry and other stakeholders with an example of P2 plans addressing the manufacture and the import of products containing NP and NPEs, as well as supporting documentation for the development of these plans and the required declarations and reports.
