Canadian Pollution Prevention Roundtable
Goal
The annual CPPR provides a unique opportunity in Canada for corporate, government, academic and non-profit leaders, decision-makers, and practitioners to exchange ideas, share expertise, and coordinate pollution prevention efforts.
The CPPR is designed to:
• give recognition for pollution prevention achievements
• identify barriers and opportunities to implementing pollution prevention strategies
• identify opportunities for cooperation across Canada
Audience
Between 100 - 150 pollution prevention specialists representing industry, governments, academia and communities from across Canada and the USA attend the CPPR.
Structure
The CPPR was launched, and continues to be hosted and organized, by the Canadian Centre for Pollution Prevention (C2P2), a nonprofit organization which encourages actions that avoid or minimize the creation of pollution.
While the delivery of the CPPR is carried out by C2P2, the effort is collaborative with input provided by an active steering committee which is headed by two co-chairs: Chris Wolnik, Canadian Centre for Pollution Prevention and James Riordan, Environment Canada, Regulatory Innovation and Management Systems.
The structure of the CPPR itself varies from year to year, depending on the themes covered and topics of greatest relevance. The two-day event consists of informative presentations, guest speakers and valuable networking opportunities. Also included with the Roundtable is the Annual Pollution Prevention Awards Gala Dinner, presented by the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME). These awards recognize innovative businesses and organizations showing leadership in pollution prevention.
Many participants return to the CPPR annually to learn more and collaborate with each other in order to advance sustainable consumption and production across Canada.
The CPPR is possible through broad-based financial support from industry, trade associations and governments.
